Are you looking for a role where you can make a real and lasting difference to young people in your community?

Our Volunteer Police Cadets programme gives 13–17 year olds a safe, positive space to learn new skills, meet new people and gain a deeper understanding of policing and community safety.

As a Volunteer Cadet Leader, you will play a vital role in shaping their experience—guiding, mentoring and inspiring young people as they take on new challenges and develop into responsible, resilient members of our community.

This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference while strengthening your own leadership, communication and mentoring skills.

What you will be doing

As part of our supportive leadership team, you will:

• Help deliver engaging weekly cadet sessions during term time.

• Support young people as they build confidence, teamwork and practical life skills.

• Lead or assist with practical, policing‑themed activities.

• Accompany cadets to local events, community activities and operational policing opportunities

• Provide guidance, encouragement and pastoral support to help them thrive.

• Contribute to the smooth running and development of your local unit.

Who we are looking for

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds—no previous cadet or youth‑work experience is needed. What matters is your ability to:

• Communicate effectively

• Motivate and support young people

• Show patience, empathy and commitment

• Uphold the Constabulary’s values of respect, empathy, courage and public service

• Work well as part of a supportive team

No policing or youth‑work experience is required—just positivity, commitment and a desire to support young people.

What's in it for you?

As a volunteer, you will receive:

• Safeguarding and Mental Health Awareness training

• A full induction into the Cadet Scheme

• Ongoing CPD and skills development (e.g. First Aid, MiDAS)

• Support from experienced leaders and the Cadet Team

• A sense of belonging within the policing family

• Opportunities to build confidence and communication skills

• Leadership and decision‑making experience

• Uniform provided, including boots
